American Chemical Health & Safety Journal published an article by Katie Rubino entitled “Developments and Trends in Cannabis Intellectual Property Rights.” The article explores relevant patenting trends and IP strategy considerations in the cannabis landscape. Excerpt: Patenting activity in the cannabis space has greatly increased over the past five years. It is projected that the cannabis industry will grow to a $57 billion industry by 2027. Many large companies have announced their intentions to break into the cannabis market. For example, Coca-Cola is in talks with Aurora Cannabis to develop drinks infused with cannabidiol (CBD). Heineken beer recently launched Hi-Fi Hops, a beer-flavored sparkling water infused with CBD and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
