Katie partners with innovators to identify patent assets that can be protected and enforced to enhance a client’s competitive position in the marketplace. Katie is driven to help her clients attain their business objectives through strategic portfolio curation and comprehensive monetization strategies. She has significant experience collaborating with clients to generate custom portfolios receiving multimillion dollar valuations.
Katie’s keen technical skills allow her to work in partnership with clients to identify the best opportunities to protect and monetize their technology. She provides counsel to companies of all sizes, ranging from start-ups to unicorns and publicly traded entities. Katie develops multinational strategies tailored to a client’s individual needs. She is known for her experience with developing monetization strategies, conducting IP due diligence, negotiating licensing rights, using intellectual property to secure debt and equity-based loans, generating revenue through collaborations, and determining patent value.
Stephanie Adamany, General Counsel, WARF
Stephanie Adamany serves as General Counsel of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), a nonprofit, mission-driven organization that has supported scientific research within the UW–Madison community for more than 90 years. WARF partners with university researchers to advance and commercialize their discoveries through IP protection and licensing and provides grants back to UW–Madison to continue the cycle of innovation. Adamany has two decades of legal experience focused on patent, trademark, copyright, with an emphasis on IP transactions and high stakes patent litigation, prosecution, and corporate matters. Prior to joining WARF in 2006, she worked as an intellectual property litigation associate at Robins Kaplan LLP and Kinney and Lange P.A. in Minneapolis.
Orin Herskowitz, Executive Director, Columbia Technology Ventures
Orin Herskowitz is SVP of Applied Innovation and Industry Partnerships for Columbia, as well as Executive Director of Columbia Technology Ventures (CTV), and an Adjunct Professor for Columbia’s Intellectual Property for Entrepreneurs course. He has been a peer reviewer for innovation and entrepreneurship awards for the National Science Foundation and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities; has been a board member or on the leadership team of many technology accelerator programs; is or has been a board member for the Center for American Entrepreneurship and Incubate, a senior Fellow for the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and a member of the National Advisory Committee on Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the Secretary of Commerce under both the Obama and Biden Administrations.
Lesley Millar-Nicholson, Executive Director, MIT Technology Licensing Office
Lesley Millar-Nicholson is the Executive Director of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Technology Licensing Office (TLO) and is part of the founding leadership team of the recently formed MIT Office of Strategic Alliances and Technology Transfer (OSATT). As TLO Executive Director, she leads a team managing the MIT’s intellectual assets and technology transfer process. Ms. Millar-Nicholson is a Past President of the Board of Governors of Certified Licensing Professionals Inc, (CLP Inc.), a former member of the Board of Directors of the Licensing Executive Society (LES), and is on the Board of Cambridge Enterprise, UK as an external advisor. A native of Scotland, Ms. Millar-Nicholson has a B.Ed., M.Ed, and MBA and is a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP).
Marc Sedam, VP Technology Opportunities & Ventures, NYU
Marc Sedam, Vice President, Technology Opportunities & Ventures, New York University and NYU Langone Health. Marc is responsible for the commercialization enterprise across NYU’s $1bn research enterprise, including its #2 ranked medical school and #3 ranked healthcare system, for one of the top performing tech transfer offices in the US. NYU regularly ranks in the top 10 nationally for license income and startup formation, and recently hired the first full-time equity research analyst in a tech transfer office to support startup formation. Marc also operates NYU Langone Health’s $25MM in-house venture fund dedicated to accelerating startup success.
