Overview

Charles Dresser is a Patent Agent, who practices patent law at the USPTO and counsels clients. In this position, Dresser collaborates with clients and other attorneys and agents to ensure that the client’s IP goals are being satisfied. Highlights of his role include:

  • Working with early-stage technology companies to develop strategic IP to accomplish their business objectives
  • Patent preparation and prosecution
  • Assisting with Patent Trial and Appeal Board Procedures including interferences, reexamination proceedings, inter partes reviews (IPR), post-grant reviews, ex parte appeals, and other proceedings before the PTAB
  • Working in industries including autonomous cars, commercial aircraft, vertical flight aircraft, medical devices, photonics, lasers, and augmented reality

Experience

Before coming to Caldwell, Dresser worked in-house at a number of technology companies, growing and managing patent portfolios. The companies focused on technology including augmented reality hardware, developed by a team from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, medical laser systems, invented by a team from Massachusetts General Hospital, and a dental laser for cavity treatment, which Dresser helped invent and develop. Dresser is a named inventor on over 160 patents and published patent applications. He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering, and he has been registered to practice patent law at the USPTO since 2012. Dresser is currently a J.D. candidate at UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law, in the IP, technology, and information law focused part-time program.
