Overview

Khurram is a Senior Patent Agent in the Santa Monica office. His practice is directed to procuring patent protection for the firm’s clients. Highlights of his role include:

  • Preparing and prosecuting of utility and design patent applications in the U.S. and international jurisdictions
  • Analyzing and evaluating patentability based on inventive features and the technology landscape
  • Pursuing and assisting in proceedings before the PTAB including appeals, post-grant reviews, inter-partes reviews and ex-partes reviews
  • Supporting in preparation and enforcement of technology transfer and licensing agreements
  • Facilitating offensive and defensive patent infringement analyses and patent litigation
  • Mentoring and training junior patent prosecutors at the firm

Experience

Khurram received his BS degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University. During his undergraduate studies and for a year after that he worked at Princeton’s Electric Propulsion and Plasma Dynamics Laboratory. He then received his PhD and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California where his research was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and directed towards particle pressures generated around bubbles in gas-fluidized beds.

After completing his doctorate, Khurram worked at a large intellectual property law firm as a Senior Patent Scientist for more than a decade. He is a registered U.S. Patent Agent licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in patent cases.

Khurram has also taught undergraduate courses in STEM, economics, and intellectual property. In addition, he has a law degree (LLB Honors) from the University of London with a distinction in Intellectual Property. He has been elected to the honor societies of Sigma Xi (The Scientific Research Honor Society) and Phi Kappa Phi (All-University Honor Society) and has authored research papers in scientific journals including the Journal of Fluid Mechanics.
